Nigeria: SMEDAN DG Tasks Graduates On Entrepreneurship

The Director General of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Alhaji Mohammed Umar has tasked Nigerian graduates on the need to cultivate the culture of entrepreneurship.

Alhaji Umar who stated this recently in an interview at a business forum in Lagos, explained that adequate attention hasn’t been given to small businesses in Nigeria. He noted that if graduates understood entrepreneurship, they wouldn’t seek for only white collar jobs but develop business concepts.

The SMEDAN DG stressed the need to change the mentality of people who think there is no need to establish economic independence for themselves and said that the organisation is engaging different activities to encourage people to develop interest and succeed in their business.

Umar also stated that although SMEDAN doesn’t fund business, they facilitate; how to package loan documentation and orientation and then lead people to financial institutions. He noted that the organisation while trying to create a suitable business environment in Nigeria, assists people through their business clinics and resource centers across the country.
